Fab. Friday is back this week and with prizes! Try your luck at tool bingo. Also, since it is Mech E grad visit weekend, all potential graduate students are invited and we will be giving tours of the space. As always, food will be provided and this week it is Thai!
Come take a break from midterms with de-stress projects in MakerWorks! We will provide candle-holders for laser engraving (bring your own design), origami paper and geometric patterns for table-top lantern making, and coloring pages. Indian food (both vegetarian and meat options) will be provided. Location this week is back in the shop (35-122) for the normal Fab. Friday hours (4-6pm).
Welcome back to MakerWorks for the spring semester! Our kick-off Fab. Friday will feature a special lecture on flexures from our very own mentor Marcel Thomas. Also provided are some sugary snacks and coffee to get you ready for midterms. Please note that this week’s Fab. Friday will be held at a different time and location. Join us from 3-5pm in the Given Lounge (35-520).
MakerWorks is teaming up with the Martin Trust Center to Make Cool ShMIT. All MIT affiliates are welcome to join for an evening that pairs making with entrepreneurship on February 23rd 6:30-9pm. Dinner will be provided with catering by Redbones. We have a cool speaker: Dragon Innovation CEO Scott Miller, and a product design competition where you get to keep what you make. The best design will also win a prize! Check out the details and sign up here.
MakerWorks will be closed today for President’s Day. We will re-open with normal hours tomorrow. Since tomorrow will be a Monday schedule, we will be holding Maker Monday on 2/16 7:30-8:30pm in 35-225. Note that MakerWorks follows institute standards and is closed on institute holidays. Maker Mondays will continue to be held on all Monday schedule Tuesdays.
MakerWorks will be running our first-ever short course 1/25-1/29/16. For the most part, the course will be running outside of shop hours; however, the course will require some machine and computer usage during open hours Monday-Wednesday (1/25-1/27) from 2-4pm. Although we don’t expect this to pose too much of an inconvenience as the shop usage requirements during open hours will be limited, the course work will take priority over general shop use. Please be advised when running milling and 3D printing jobs (one of the printers will likely be taken offline for ~24hrs for course work) next week.
MakerWorks will open again today with modified hours through the end of the IAP. Hours are 2-7:30pm Monday-Wednesday from 1/11 through 1/27. And Maker Mondays will be Monday 1/11,1/25 3:30-4:30pm and Tuesday 1/19 3:30-4:30pm. Please meet in MakerWorks for Maker Mondays. Note: we will be closed for the MLK holiday on 1/18.
